I will always bleed yellow and green, says scoring legend
It is the end of an era at Runcorn Linnets as we bid a very fond farewell to our club record goalscorer Ryan Brooke.
Brookey has been our attacking talisman over six years.
He made 202 competitive appearances across two spells, separated by a short stay at Warrington Rylands.
With 82 goals, Brookey's scoring record is likely to stand for a long time due to the nature of non-league football with players frequently coming and going.
In a departing message to fans, he said:
"Representing this club and becoming its all-time leading goalscorer is something I will always be incredibly proud of.
"While I’m disappointed my journey here is over, I leave with amazing memories and gratitude for the support I’ve received over the years."
At the peak of his powers in 2021-22, Brookey struck 34 times across all competitions.
Twenty five league goals that season earned him the Golden Boot as leading marksman in Northern Premier League West.
He became Linnets' top all-time marksman in March 2025 by scoring the winner in a thrilling home comeback against Stalybridge Celtic.
Brookey had already contributed the opening goal as we came from two down to triumph 3-2.
Although game time has been reduced of late, Brookey's influence at the club has never diminished.
This has extended off the pitch, his status as a senior player being heightened in January of last year when he took co-caretaker charge of team affairs when we were in between managers.
Typically, he came up with the winner in the first of a two-game stint as joint interim manager - a 1-0 victory at Newcastle Town.
I
Brookey has invariably lifted our spirits when this was needed - either through his scoring ability, on-field leadership or infectious personality behind the scenes.
A heavy-metal performer on all fronts, he has set the tune for our achievements as a team and progress as a club.
Brookey added: "I’ll always look back with pride and wish the club nothing but success for the future.
"Thank you for being part of such a special chapter in my life. I will always bleed yellow and green 💛💚⚡️🎸"
Although he is moving on, Brookey leaves a legacy of great memories.
We will continue to feel his presence at APEC Taxis Stadium as others strive to match his high standards.
The club thanks Brookey for his immense contribution and wishes him success and happiness for whatever his future holds.
