Midfielder played 206 games for Linnets across five seasons
The club can confirm that another of our long-serving players has opted to move on to pastures new.
Midfielder Lewis Doyle has spent just short of five full seasons at Runcorn Linnets, under a handful of managers.
He was a cornerstone of successive teams, which have established the club in Northern Premier League West and come agonisingly close to promotion.
Doyley was involved in all four of our play-off campaigns and his opener in the 2023 final at Workington gave us hope of playing at Step 3 for the first time.
Sadly, it was not to be.
Doyley is one of tne rare breed of players to have completed 200 Linnets appearances - a feat he achieved towards the end of last season.
He is a player, who has always given 100% to the cause while also bringing ability and adaptability.
Doyley finally and deservedly claimed his first winners' medal with Linnets at the end of 2024-25 season in the Cheshire Senior Cup final success over Stalybridge Celtic.
Many of our best performances over the years have been driven by him.
On being brought to the club by our then boss Calum McIntyre in November 2021, Doyley was initially used as a defensive midfield player.
But he has since developed a more expansive style.
Highly competitive and often getting forward in support of the front men, he has also shown an eye for a spectacular goal but perhaps not managed to score as many as he'd have liked.
Doyley was our joint second highest appearance maker last season, netting three times in 50 outings with 38 starts.
Overall he played 206 competitive matches including 28 as a substitute, and was on target 27 times.
Doyley was our Players' Player of the Year in 2022-23 and, at 25 years old, he still has many more seasons ahead of him.
He departs with our thanks for his loyalty and commitment plus, of course, our very best wishes as he begins the next chapter in his footballing career.
