Entry to photo exhibition at Chester University is free and open to all
'The Linnets Story' is an exhibition created by one of our club photographers Peter Gallagher-Headley for the third and final year of his photography degree course at Chester University.
Entry is free with both the preview event and the exhibition itself being open to the public.
Peter has put some words together about the event.
He said: "For the project, I knew I wanted to do something based on football, but I wanted to do something more interesting than just standard sports photography.
"Therefore, I decided to base my project around the history of Runcorn Linnets and (its predecessor) Runcorn FC.
"Having been a photographer for the club since November 2024, I’d heard bits here and there about the club's history since 1918 and I’ve known for a while it’s something that I wanted to explore in a creative way.
"The project developed in many different ways up to the point it’s at now. The biggest challenge I’ve faced really is figuring out the way that I’m going to visually tell the story on a wall, and I eventually came up with the idea of creating a museum-style exhibit using photos from across the club's history."
Peter admitted: "I think the exhibition will confuse a lot of people at first, as most would probably expect a photography exhibition to be made up of mostly the photographer's work, but mine's not.
"Rather than use my own work, I’ve put more of a focus on giving new life to photographs that may have not been seen for quite a while or maybe even been forgotten about, bringing them back into the limelight.
"At the exhibition, there will be a portfolio of my own images, including my work outside of sports photography."
He added: "The exhibition I have created is nothing on a spectacular scale, only made up of approximately 30 images, a video piece and a little bit more.
"Really the aim was never about the scale, it was always about putting showcase on to such a historic club. Whether you’re a long term fan, who wants to reminisce on the past, or a newer fan, who wants to learn a little more, I think there’ll be something that appeals to everyone.
"Finally, I just want to say how grateful I am to everyone who’s helped me throughout the course of the project. It wouldn’t have been possible without the people, who have talked to me and told me a little bit about the club's history, pointed me in the direction of someone who might be able to help me out, let me interview them for the video work I have done, or even loaned me an item to display as part of the exhibition.
"I am extremely grateful and appreciative for everything across the course of the year and there will be a list of individual names posted with the exhibition itself of everyone who has helped me."
The exhibition opens on Thursday the June 18th as part of a department-wide degree show. On the 18th, there will be a preview event from 6pm to 9pm that is open to all.
The show will then be open every day from the 19th until the June 27th, from 10am to 4pm.
Peter is one of our valued club volunteers, who alongside his fellow club photographers has produced an outstanding visual record of club matches and events.
We wish him every success with the exhibition at the culimination of his degree course.
