Runcorn Linnets Under 21s showed their character by coming from two down for a 3-2 cup-tie derby win at Runcorn Sports.

It was a scrappy game from start to finish with very little quality on show. But Linnets eventually progressed to the second round of the North West Development League Cup.

Their prize is a home tie against Warrington Rylands U21s on Sunday, November 9th at APEC Taxis Stadium.

One player who stood out from the outset, showing composure and class was midfielder Owen Cushion.

Charlie Ratcliffe keeps the pressure on Sports.

Leading by example, he was naned Linnets' Thistledown Group Man of the Match.

The teams had gone into half-time at 0-0 after a 45 minutes with very little chances but the visitors soon found themselves 2-0 down.

A wonder goal from Ben Dobbie gave Linnets a lifeline before Lew Crane struck with a very timely brace, including a 90th-minute winner.

It is back to league action this Sunday when they entertain NWU21DL Premier Division rivals FC United of Manchester U21s in a noon kick-off.

The referee brings together the two captains for a word. Two-goal Lewis Crane was Linnets skipper for the day,
