Defender joins U21s after representing club at all other agegrouos
Tom Ledward has returned to his footballing roots to join Runcorn Linnets Under 21s for the new season in North West Development League Premier Division.
Tom, who turns 19 this week, had a brief spell with our first team two seasons ago under Antony Kay.
He is back on the scene at APEC Taxis Stadium having also played for Linnets at every agegroup from seven to 18.
The central defender now completes the set by reuniting with U21s boss Ste Ellams, who managed him at junior and youth levels.
Tom made three senior outings for Runcorn at the start of 2024-25, when still 16 years old, after impressing in warm-up games.
All were off the bench - his Northern Premier League West debut coming on September 14th 2024 in a 0-2 home defeat by Trafford.
One of two subsequent appearances was as a makeshift substitute striker in a 1-0 Liverpool Senior Cup home victory over Bootle.
U21s manager Ellams said: "Tom has been on a break from football but has made a fantastic start to life with the U21s.
"He has put in a number of strong performances during this pre-season and showed exactly why he wore the captain’s armband in our juniors for seven years.
"Tom’s leadership, strength and consistency have already stood out, and he’s looking ready for the challenge ahead."
Welcome back, Tom! 🔰
