Priior to switching to Linnets for the 2020-21 season, James had been a regular at
Witton Albion in NPL Premier Division.
The experienced left back was awarded the Linnets captaincy in summer 2022, after serving as vice-captain. Unfortunately, his 2024-25 campaign was blighted by injury and illness and, facing a further extended lay-off, he has handed over the armband to his former deputy Jacques Welsh.
James had joined Witton in summer 2019, after five years at Marine. His other
previous clubs include Morecambe, Warrington Town, Skelmersdale United and Burscough.
